BIOGRAPHY OF OSAHON GOLDEN OYUGBO
BIOGRAPHY OF OSAHON GOLDEN OYUGBO (1948-2019).
Born on March 10th, 1948, in the vibrant community of Okiagben, Ewohimi, Osahon Golden Oyugbo entered the world in what was then the Mid-Western Region of Nigeria. This region later became Bendel State and is now known as Edo State. He was a cherished son of Mr. and Mrs. Oyugbo James.
Blessed with numerous sisters and an elder brother, young Osahon's childhood was filled with the joy of companionship. Though a bright and promising boy, the privilege of a large, playful family saw him dedicating his early days to adventures around the neighborhood, often returning home only when hunger called.
At the tender age of three, Osahon faced a profound challenge; a severe, mysterious illness that caused constant breathing difficulties. His parents, unable to find a clear diagnosis, tried every local remedy and visited community hospitals, often resorting to manually easing his chest during attacks. With no lasting solution in sight, they leaned on faith and resilience to manage the condition.
Yet, this persistent sickness never dimmed Osahon's bright spirit or thirst for learning. He excelled academically at Okiagben Primary School and later at Pilgrim Baptist Grammar School, Ewohimi (1970-1976). An active member of the Social Science Club and an enthusiast of handball, he balanced his health struggles with scholastic and extracurricular pursuits. He successfully sat for his West Africa School Certificate (G.C.E.) in May/June 1976.
Seeking new opportunities, Osahon relocated to Lagos after his exams to live with his married elder sister. A pivotal moment occurred one Sunday morning at a Catholic Mass when a severe breathing attack struck. Observing his distress, the Reverend Father approached him after the service and identified the condition that had plagued Osahon since childhood as Asthma. At that time, effective asthma medication was scarce in Nigeria. Determined to help him breathe easier, his family through the Reverend Father sourced vital inhalers from England.
Empowered by the prospect of better treatment abroad, Osahon secured his international passport. However, in his eagerness to relocate, he fell victim to fraudsters who took his travel funds. While mobilizing resources for another attempt, his beloved elder brother offered wise counsel, advising against the move due to the harsh cold weather and potential loneliness challenges ill-suited to managing his asthma.
Undeterred, Osahon forged a successful career path within Nigeria. His professional journey began in earnest:
* March 8th, 1985. Appointed by Dumez Nigeria Limited, initially working in their accelerated district in the developing Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He relocated from Lagos to Suleja, Niger State (then the administrative base for Abuja projects).
* May 23rd, 1986: Secured a position as a Storekeeper (Tally No: 2676) with StraGerber (Stragab) Construction Nigeria Ltd in Abuja.
* April 21st, 1987: Joined Julius Berger Nigeria Plc (Tally No: 1756117) as a Storekeeper, serving until 1988.
Amidst building his career, love blossomed. In 1986, he married Adesuwa Maria, a daughter of the esteemed ruling house of Onojie and Daughter to the brother of HRH Ambrose Izelu I, the Okalo of Ewohimi.
Seeking stability within the public sector, Osahon joined the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) on May 20th, 1988, as a Radio Operator. His dedication and aptitude shone through. He steadily rose through the ranks in the Finance Department, achieving the position of Chief Revenue Assistant I. Committed to self-improvement, he pursued further studies at the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, earning a qualification in Accountancy & Finance.
His diligence and expertise were further recognized with a promotion to Chief Accountant in the Office of the Vice Chairman of AMAC, a role he held with distinction until his well-earned retirement. Following retirement, he moved from government quarters in Life Camp, Abuja, to his house in Suleja, Niger State.
Osahon's life was profoundly anchored in faith. His spiritual journey began in the Catholic Church. After moving to Niger State, he worshipped with the Cherubim and Seraphim movement. Upon settling in Abuja, he joined Deeper Life Bible Church, serving faithfully as a Sunday School teacher. He later became a devoted member of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), Utako, where his commitment led him to serve as the Head Usher under Pastor Daniel Olukoya. Returning to Suleja, he joined God's Will Ministry, leading the Men's Fellowship until his passing. Throughout, he steadfastly rooted his family on the foundation of Christ.
Known for his integrity and discipline, Osahon was not one for social frivolities. He found joy in reading, sharing his faith through Christian music that often filled the neighborhood, and his wonderfully warm sense of humour. Though calm and somewhat introverted, he was a delight to be with, always ready with a kind word or a joke. He was renowned for his impeccable neatness, unwavering work ethic, and a distinctive, purposeful walk reminiscent of a soldier's bearing.
Family was his greatest blessing. Osahon and Adesuwa were blessed with five loving children. He had the profound joy of seeing two daughters and a Son married and cherished the laughter of four grandchildren before his passing.
Osahon Golden Oyugbo lived a life marked by perseverance through adversity, unwavering faith, professional excellence, deep family love, and infectious joy. He passed away peacefully on July 18th, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, devotion, and quiet inspiration.
Today I remember my father and first Lord who died on this day 18th July, 2019.
Until the moment when will shall dance in white Greater Grace.
