MY SDG-2 ADVOCACY

For more than four years, I have advocated for SDG-2 Zero Hunger by 2030.

Africa is projected to have a population of over a billion by 2050, with Nigeria potentially becoming the world’s most populous country. Yet the troubling reality is that while populations grow, food reserves are dwindling and farming productivity is at its lowest. Our capable youth are not investing in agriculture, choosing instead to prioritize smart homes (air-conditioned but treeless) and luxury cars to showcase on social media.

With rising populations, declining food production, and worsening insecurity, hunger is inevitable. To achieve SDG 2, we must collectively commit to growing food starting at home.

Last year, I grew yams in bags at home. The results were successful and encouraging. Smart farming methods exist for those with resources.

Last week, I searched markets for fresh ginger (which I love to blend with corn for pap) but found none. Most farmers in Southern Kaduna have been displaced by insecurity.

Governments must protect our farmers. When hunger breeds violence, funds meant for education and hospitals are diverted to buy weapons.

There is no quick fix for our nation’s future without ending hunger.

My advocacy for #ZeroHunger by 2030 continues.

Until the moment when will shall dance in white Greater Grace.
