BLORD AND VDM RIFT

I have been following the rift between Blord and VDM with great interest. The situation offers key insights into consumer psychology, the art of making money, and the dynamics of selling premium goods.

The dispute began when VDM called out Blord for selling iPhone XR models upgraded and rebranded as "iPhone 17" with a significantly high markup.

This reminds me of an experience I had last year. I went to Gudu Market to buy a grass-spraying machine and some chemicals. The first vendor quoted me ₦38,000 for the machine and ₦8,000 for the chemical. I decided to look further, and at the third shop, I bought the same sprayer for ₦15,000 and the chemical for ₦5,000.

In such open markets, there are often no fixed prices; the cost is determined by the seller's discretion and the buyer's bargaining power. The key point is that you are not forced to buy. Once you decide to make a purchase after being informed of the product's details and quality just as Blord explicitly stated his phones were upgraded XR models, you take responsibility for agreeing to the price.

In my view, VDM was wrong to publicly call out Blord over his pricing. That is a matter of personal business strategy. A more constructive approach for VDM would be to use his platform to educate the public on sourcing prices from China or to direct people to cheaper alternatives, rather than condemning a specific businessman for selling "thing goods."

I often refer people to the shop where I got my sprayer for a cheaper price, but I would never condemn the vendor selling it for more. For instance, if I transport goods from Abuja to Kano for ₦200,000, and someone else does it for ₦120,000, it is our prerogative to set different prices for our services based on our costs and value proposition.

Until the moment when will shall dance in white Greater Grace
