FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND YOUR CULTURE

For those who believe that having a foreign name and speaking the English language means your house is sophisticated with modernization and your children are from wealthy homes, think again.

Dear friends, languages do die out. Just consider the Njuu language: one of the oldest in the world, now with only one speaker left on earth.

I recently attended a Nigerian traditional children's program, hosted by a TV station to showcase our culture. All the children were speaking English, except for the Hausa parents, who I heard communicating with their children in Hausa. Ironically, the organizers concluded the event by sharing meat pie and other foreign foods.

We must remember, culture consists of language, food, clothing, and people. We must be intentional about preserving all of it.

Until the moment when will shall dance in white Greater Grace.
