Instead of spending your money on processed bread and sugary drinks, or feeling pressured to be seen in crowded places to prove you're enjoying life, invest in your well-being. Choose nutritious, whole foods like roasted plantain and enjoy a moment of peace for yourself.
Also, be mindful of how many seasoning cubes you use in cooking. For instance, using two cubes for meat, then adding three more to start your stew, and another three to finish it, means you've used eight cubes in one pot. This is excessive.
This isn't enjoyment, it's a recipe for health problems. Seasoning companies often use just one or two cubes in their advertisements, but habitual overuse floods your diet with dangerous amounts of salt, preservatives, and additives like MSG.
I witnessed the consequences firsthand while working in a pharmacy. In 2012, a month's supply of common diabetic medication cost between ₦12,000 and ₦27,000. Today, it can cost between ₦60,000 and ₦300,000. Treatment for health conditions has become incredibly expensive.
The most effective cure is prevention. You can protect your future by prioritizing three simple things. Eating well, sleeping well, and exercising well. Your health is your greatest wealth.
