A PATRIOTIC CALL FOR ACTION

As a patriotic citizen of our great nation, I have developed this prototype concept for a Nigeria Police Highway Post as a practical suggestion towards addressing the persistent insecurity affecting our highways and communities.

For years, Nigerians have expressed concerns about kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry and other forms of criminality along our highways. Complaining alone will not solve these challenges. We need practical, innovative and sustainable solutions.

Security is a collective responsibility. Government, security agencies, businesses, communities, civil society organisations and citizens must work together to safeguard human lives and ensure the free movement of people, goods and services.

I want to humbly propose the establishment of strategically located Nigeria Police Highway Posts along major Federal highways.

As Nigeria continues to strengthen its security architecture and advance discussions around effective policing at the state level, the Federal Government can strengthen the protection of Federal highways through dedicated highway policing infrastructure.

These highway posts could be strategically positioned at approximately every 3 kilometres, subject to professional security assessment, geography.

Each post could provide:

- Permanent police presence and rapid response capability.

- Solar-powered lighting for 24-hour visibility.

- CCTV and other appropriate surveillance technology.

- Emergency communication facilities.

- Accommodation and basic welfare facilities for officers.

- A secure reporting and response point for motorists.

- Space for coordinated operations with other security agencies.

The highway posts should not operate in isolation.

Depending on the location and security needs, they could support coordinated operations involving:

Nigeria Police Force • Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) • National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) • Forest Guards • Local Security Structures • Other relevant security and intelligence agencies

This would create a stronger network of security presence along Nigeria's major highways.

One of the most important aspects of this proposal is the possibility of developing the project through a Public-Private and Community Partnership model.

Funding and construction support could come from:

- Multinational corporations.

- Companies constructing Federal roads.

- Businesses operating along major highways.

- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

- Development partners and NGOs.

- Friends of Nigeria.

- Nigerian citizens and philanthropists.

- Brands seeking responsible public visibility.

- Celebrities and public figures.

- Community organisations and foundations.

Citizens could also sponsor a highway post in memory of a loved one, creating a lasting legacy while contributing to national security.

The Federal Government could establish a transparent digital platform where interested organisations, companies and individuals can register their interest in supporting the programme.

Approved partners could be allocated designated highway locations and given appropriate identification codes, standards and specifications for construction.

This would ensure that the project remains properly regulated, coordinated, transparent and accountable, while allowing Nigerians and corporate organisations to participate directly in protecting our highways.

If the Presidency, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, considers launching a national Highway Security Infrastructure Partnership Programme, I strongly believe there would be significant interest from private organisations, development partners, communities and patriotic Nigerians.

This should not simply be another government programme.

It should become a national movement for safer highways.

Imagine a Nigeria where motorists travelling hundreds of kilometres can regularly see well-equipped police highway posts, solar-powered lights, emergency communication points and security personnel positioned strategically along major routes.

That is the kind of practical security infrastructure we should begin to build.

My prayers: 

I sincerely hope this proposal reaches the relevant authorities and receives serious consideration.

I am not presenting myself as a security expert. I am simply a patriotic Nigerian who believes that citizens should not only complain about the problems confronting our country but should also contribute ideas towards solving them.

Nigeria belongs to all of us.

Let us protect our people.

Let us protect our highways.

Let us protect the movement of goods and services.

Let us build a safer Nigeria together.
